abstract = {If both EVs (Electric Vehicles, includes plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) and renewable energies spread in large quantities, it is possible to control the supply fluctuation of renewable energies using the storage battery of EVs. This research tried to show the charge load potential of EVs based on the state of the Japanese passenger car using traffic census results etc. Furthermore, it tried to show trend of the storage battery capacity according to time. From the estimated result; (1) the charge electricity of low and middle distance gets a majority of the total charge demand, (2) charge load changes according to time several times, and the minimum load is the number of GWh at early morning, (3) if night charge is assumed, the standby charge demand of noon will reach tens GWh, it may have sufficient scale for supply fluctuation control of PVs. Although the present EV is not suitable for long-distance running, these are expected to be 30 or less percent of the total charge demand. The estimated storage capacity potential in this research will not change numbers of times.},

abstract = {Electric vehicles (EVs) present an efficient solution for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhancing grid power quality. They offer multiple advantages over traditional internal combustion engines (ICEs), including lower emissions, reduced dependance on oil, higher energy efficiency, quieter operation, zero emissions, and improved air quality by minimizing the release of toxic chemicals into the atmosphere. However, there is a lack of literature that comprehensively reviews the factors that can facilitate the assimilation of EV technology. Therefore, this paper provides a comprehensive review of EV technologies, focusing on the growth of global EV adoption and the various types of EVs, including all-EVs and hybrid EVs (HEVs). The comparative analysis of different HEV technologies is presented, covering full HEVs, mild HEVs, and plug-in HEVs (PHEVs). The paper also discusses the different classifications of HEVs based on electrification level and energy source, along with a comparative analysis of their configurations. Furthermore, the EV architecture is examined, with a specific focus on electric motors, battery management systems (BMSs), batteries, and charging technologies, including conductive and wireless charging systems. The challenges in EV charging and the associated charging standards are also addressed. The paper concludes by highlighting the need for the advancement of EV technologies and infrastructure to overcome the significant barriers to rapid EV adoption, while demonstrating how smart grid technologies enhance EV charging efficiency, grid resilience, and energy sustainability.},

While smart charging algorithms have been widely studied to optimize EV charging schedules, the role of EV users' plug-in behavior that precedes any smart charging remains largely unexplored. This study addresses this critical gap by approximating the human plug-in decision-making process through an agent-based simulation model, capturing how EV users adjust their plug-in behavior in response to status of charge and dynamic electricity prices. Furthermore, we evaluate the impact of plug-in behavior on EV users' charging cost, battery lifetime, and EV fleet peak power demand. Our numerical analysis reveals that a price-sensitive plug-in behavior can substantially decrease charging cost and generally extend battery lifetime, though some users may experience shorter battery lifespans due to deeper discharge cycles. Moreover, this behavior also leads to synchronized charging patterns, increasing peak power demand, and potentially straining grid infrastructure. These findings reveal the trade-off between user benefits and grid operation drawbacks, underscoring the need for holistic approaches in the assessment of EV user behavior. Furthermore, our study highlights the importance of user engagement in smart charging technologies.}
